It is regularly ranked in the top 20 Arts faculties in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The Departments of Anthropology and Spanish and Latin American Studies will co-host this shared position for an anthropologist of Latin America. Both departments are in an exciting phase of growth and renewal as part of the Schools of Social and Political Sciences, and Languages and Cultures. This is your opportunity to join two dynamic groups of scholars committed to theoretical innovation and intellectual excellence in Anthropology and Latin American studies.<\/p>\n<p>To succeed in this role you are a scholar who will complement and enhance both Departments\u2019 reputations in teaching and ethnographic research focussed on societies and cultures of Latin America. Areas of expertise may include Amazonia, Brazil, the Caribbean, the Andes, and Mesoamerica.<\/p>\n<p>As the Lecturer Anthropology and Spanish and Latin America Studies you will be expected to:<\/p>\n<p>* Maintain a research profile compatible with the two Departments\u2019 research programmes<br \/>\n* Supervise honours and postgraduate research students in Anthropology and Latin American Studies<br \/>\n* Contribute to core units in each of the Latin American and Anthropology majors (such as Latin American popular culture, Latin American critical theory, anthropological theory and methods, and Introduction to Anthropology)<br \/>\n* Develop one or more elective units on aspects of the anthropology of Latin America that can be cross listed for both majors. Areas of focus may include: race and ethnic relations, gender and sexuality, religion and shamanism, Indigenous forms of kinship and social organisation and their transformation, urban anthropology, globalisation, social movements<br \/>\n* Make an active contribution to Sydney University Research Community for Latin America (SURCLA).<\/p>\n<p>This position is shared 50% each across the two Schools and you will be affiliated with the Department of Anthropology for administrative purposes. Specific duties in each Department will be negotiated prior to appointment.<\/p>\n<p>The position is full-time, continuing subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.<\/p>\n<p>Remuneration package: competitive remuneration package of A$99,602 &#8211; A$118,275 p.a. is available (consisting of a base salary Level B A$84,165 \u2013 A$99,944 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer\u2019s contribution to superannuation).<\/p>\n<p>All applications must be submitted via The University of Sydney careers website.
