Dear Fellow Anthropologists.<\/p>\n

The US Congress is currently evaluating and considering the expansion of the Pentagon’s Human Terrain System (HTS) program, in which anthropologists have been recruited to assist with counterinsurgency operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. Please join us in expressing our firm opposition to the program and any expansion by agreeing to add your signature to the attached “Anthropologists’ Statement on the Human Terrain System Program.” Modeled after a well-publicized 2008 statement written by economists to oppose the Bush administration’s first TARP program, this statement aims to clearly and concisely state the factual grounds for our opposition.<\/p>\n

Unlike our previous year-long effort to compile signatures for the Network of Concerned Anthropologists’ “Pledge of Non-participation in Counterinsurgency,” we want to collect the signatures of as many professional anthropologists\u00a0as soon as possible so that our voice can be heard in the debate about HTS.<\/em><\/p>\n

El Congreso de EE.UU. est\u00e1 evaluando y considerando la expansi\u00f3n del Sistema Humanos del Pent\u00e1gono Terreno (HTS) del programa, en la que los antrop\u00f3logos han sido reclutados para ayudar con las operaciones de contrainsurgencia en Afganist\u00e1n e Irak. \u00danase a nosotros para expresar nuestra firme oposici\u00f3n al programa y las tarjetas de expansi\u00f3n al aceptar a\u00f1adir su firma a la adjunta “Declaraci\u00f3n de los antrop\u00f3logos de Terreno Humano del Programa de Sistemas”. Modelado despu\u00e9s de una bien publicitada declaraci\u00f3n de 2008 escrito por los economistas para oponerse a los gobiernos de Bush primer programa de administraci\u00f3n TARP, esta declaraci\u00f3n tiene como objetivo de manera clara y concisa los motivos de hechos de nuestra oposici\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

A diferencia de nuestros esfuerzos anteriores de un a\u00f1o para recopilar firmas para la Red de Antrop\u00f3logos Preocupada “Juramento a la no participaci\u00f3n en la contrainsurgencia,” queremos recoger las firmas de tantos antrop\u00f3logos profesionales lo m\u00e1s pronto posible para que nuestra voz se puede escuchar en el debate sobre la HTS.<\/p>\n
